Cricklade, Wiltshire
Cricklade is a town in Wiltshire, lying on the south bank of the River Thames. Cricklade Town Bridge was long deemed the upper limit of navigation on the Thames. Cricklade was an important burh, or fortified town, in the 9th century, chose as the strategic spot where the Roman road Ermin Street crosses the River Thames. The town is within the council area of Wiltshire.
