Crewkerne, Somerset
Crewkerne is a town in Somerset. It lies on the River Parrett, close to the Devon border. In the 899 will of Alfred the Great, he left Crewkerne to his son Æthelweard. The town grew in the late medæval period around the textile industry. The Church of St Bartholomew, dating from the 15th century, an excellent example of the Perpendicular style. Crewkerne Town Hall (1742) is in the neoclassical style. The town is within the council area of Somerset.
