Crediton, Devon
Crediton is a historic market town, lying in the Creedy Valley in Devon. Crediton is the reputed birthplace of St Boniface c. 675 AD. St Boniface Catholic Church houses the UK Nation Shrine to the saint. Crediton was the seat of the Saxon Bishopric of Devon from 909 AD until 1050, when the see moved to Exeter. The Church of the Holy Cross was built from around 1130 on the site of the Saxon cathedral. The nave and chancel date from the 15th century. Crediton became a prosperous wool town form the 13th century. The Old Town Hall, in neoclassical style, dates from 1852. The town is within the council area of Mid Devon (Devon).
