County Hall, Berkshire

County Hall is a 17th-century civic building, the county hall for Berkshire, located in the Market Place in Abingdon, Berkshire. It was designed in the Baroque style by Christopher Kempster who trained with Sir Christopher Wren on St Paul's Cathedral. It was completed in 1683. It stands on large pilasters with a sheltered area beneath for use as a market or other municipal functions. According to Pevsner: "Of the free-standing town halls of England with open ground floors this is the grandest". The hall is within the council area of Vale of White Horse (Oxfordshire).
