Cosham, Hampshire

Cosham is a former village that is now a northern suburb of Portsmouth, Hampshire. It does not lie on Portsea Island and remained a separate village into the 20th century during which it was became increasingly suburbanised. It was incorporated into the municipal area of Portsmouth in 1920. Cosham is famous as the place where Æthelred the Unready lay terminally ill when Cnut of Denmark began his invasion of England in 1015. It is within the council area of Portsmouth.
