Coryton, Essex

Coryton is a former village in Essex, on the Thames estuary. The village was constructed as 'Kynochtown' around 1887 for workers at the Kyncochs explosives factory. It was renamed Coryton in 1921 when Cory Brothers Ltd purchased the site and founded the Coryton refinery. The village was demolished in the 1970s. The whole refinery site is now an enterprise park. The area is within the council area of Thurrock.
