Coombe, Surrey
Coombe is a suburban village in Surrey. Coombe centred on Coombe House (now demolished) a large residence built in the 1750s. In the mid-19th century Coombe became popular with fashionable London society as a semi-rural retreat and numerous substantial houses were built. Coombe is now a prestigious suburban village with two golf courses and several private housing estates. Edwin Maxwell Fry's 1937 modernist Miramonte House is an L‑shaped composition of glass and whitewashed concrete in horizontal bands, with a sun terrace on the flat roof. Coombe is within the council area of Kingston upon Thames.
