Condate Roman Fort, Cheshire

Condate Roman Fort was a Flavian Roman Fort which lay at the confluence of the rivers Dane and Weaver, at modern-day Northwich, Cheshire. The Roman's interest in the Northwich area is thought to be due to the strategic river crossing and the location of the salt brines. Excavations have revealed the remains of barrack blocks and courtyard building thought to be a Praetorium. The site is within the council area of Cheshire West and Chester.
