Colney Hatch, Middlesex
Colney Hatch is a former hamlet that is now an urban area in the east of Friern Barnet, Middlesex. The hamlet of Colney Hatch is first recorded in the 15th century. The hamlet lay at the intersection of the current B550 and A1003, now the site of Friern Barnet Town Hall. Colney Hatch became well known from the mid-19th century following the building of Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum to the east of the hamlet. Colney Hatch tube station (now 'New Southgate') opened alongside the asylum in 1850. Colney Hatch is within the council area of Barnet.
