Coleraine, Londonderry

Coleraine is a large town, lying near the mouth of the River Bann in County Londonderry. It is within the townlands of Coleraine and Suburbs, Churchland, Waterside, Lismurphy, Somerset, Mount Sandel, Watt's Town, Windy Hill, Harper's Hill, Spittle Hill, Loguestown, Milburn and Ballysally, in the civil parishes of Coleraine and Killowen. The town was developed by the London Companies during the Plantation of Ulster. The Honourable the Irish Society was made responsible for much of Coleraine. The town expanded throughout the 19th century with industrialisation, the expansion of the river port and the development of the railway. The town has seen steady suburban expansion since the Second World War. The town square is called 'The Diamond' and is the location of Coleraine Town Hall (1857). The town is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
