Cockpit, Merionethshire

Cockpit is a late 18th or early 19th-century cockpit set on a natural rocky outcrop, opposite the front elevation of Peniarth-uchaf, Merionethshire. The cockpit is circular, about 10ft in diameter and constructed of local stone rubble, forming walls about 4ft high. Cut into the copings are rectangular emplacements for timber posts to support a covering roof, now lost. A gap in the wall provides an entrance, with a step down into the ring. It is within the council area of Gwynedd.
