Coatbridge, Lanarkshire

Coatbridge is a town in Lanarkshire, set among the central Lowlands. The town developed in the 18th century from a loose collections of hamlets. Coatbridge was a major centre for iron works and coal mining during the 19th century. Present day Coatbridge is the site of a major inland container base. The town forms part of a conurbation with neighbouring Airdrie. The town is within the council area of North Lanarkshire.
