Clonard, Antrim
Clonard is an urban area in west Belfast, County Antrim. It is within the townland of Edenderry, in the civil parish of Shankill. Clonard House was built around 1843. The area was developed from the late 19th century. The Redemptorists religious order built a small tin church in the grounds of Clonard House in 1897. In 1911 the Church of the Holy Redeemer opened in the grounds of the community residence replacing the tin church. The Clonard area's location between the largely nationalist Falls area and the largely unionist Shankill area has seen it at the centre of conflict throughout its history. Clonard is within the council area of Belfast.
