Clare, Suffolk
Clare is a market town in Suffolk, on the north bank of the River Stour which divides Suffolk from Essex. As a cloth town, it is one of Suffolk's "threads". Its wealth from wool and cloth in the Middle Ages and early modern period has provided Clare with a vast "wool church" and many attractive houses about the village are from these ages. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul is one of the largest and most beautiful in East Anglia. The town is within the council area of West Suffolk (Suffolk).
