Christ Church Cathedral, Oxfordshire
Christ Church Cathedral (formally The Cathedral Church of Christ, Oxford) is a Church of England cathedral in Oxford, Oxfordshire. It is the seat of the Bishop of Oxford. It is also the chapel of Christ Church, a college of the University of Oxford. It was built as a priory church of Austin Canons around the mid 12th century. It became the cathedral of the diocese of Oxford in 1542. In 1870 a general restoration was undertaken under Sir Gilbert Scott. The nave, choir, main tower and transepts are late Norman. There are architectural features ranging from Norman to the Perpendicular style. The cathedral is within the council area of Oxford (Oxfordshire).
