Chicheley Hall, Buckinghamshire

Chicheley Hall is a country house in Chicheley, Buckinghamshire. It was built between 1719 and 1723 by Sir John Chester, replacing an earlier manor house, and the main architect was Francis Smith. The building is an example of English Baroque architecture. During the Second World War, the hall trained Czechoslovak and Polish agents for missions behind enemy lines as a Special Training School for the Special Operations Executive. In 2007, the Royal Society acquired the property and renovated. It became the Kavli Royal Society International Centre, a venue for science seminars and conferences. Chicheley Hall has been a filming location due to its grand building and beautiful grounds. Productions include: 'Enigma'; 'Pride and Prejudice'; 'The Meaning of Life'; 'The Red Violin'; 'Separate Lies'. The house later became a hotel, event, and wedding venue set within 80 acres. It is within the council area of Milton Keynes.
