Chesham is a market town in Buckinghamshire, lying in the Chess Valley. The earliest reference to Chesham is from c. 970 as 'Cæstæleshamm', meaning "the river-meadow at the pile of stones". The 'old town' includes many historic buildings such as the 12th century St Mary's Church, 'The Bury', a Queen Anne town house, and the old workhouse. The town is within the council area of Buckinghamshire.
