Cayton is a deserted mediæval village near South Stainley in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. The village was listed in Domesday and was granted in 1135 to the Cistercian Abbey of Fountains which established a grange on the site. The settlement dwindled after the Dissolution, though earthwork remains of the early village and the monastic grange survive. It is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
