Castle Hill, Yorkshire
Castle Hill is an early 12th century earth and timber ringwork fortress near Middleton-on-Leven, Yorkshire, in the North Riding. It was founded by Robert de Brus and commands the end of a steep bluff formed by the River Leven. In 1158 after the Anarchy, in the reign of King Stephen, Adam de Brus was possibly forced to dismantle the castle. It is within the council area of Stockton-on-Tees.
