Castle Goring, Sussex

Castle Goring is a Georgian country house near Clapham, Sussex. Castle Goring was designed by John Rebecca for Sir Bysshe Shelley, 1st Baronet. It was intended that his grandson, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. However, Percy Shelley died before he took possession of the house. The north side of Castle Goring is Gothic and is thought to resemble nearby Arundel Castle. The south side has a Greco-Palladian front of yellow brick, said to be a copy of the Villa Lante near Rome. The house is within the council area of Worthing (West Sussex).
