Carnagat, Armagh
Carnagat is a western suburb of of Newry, lying west of the Clanrye River in County Armagh. It is within the townland of Carnagat, in the civil parish of Newry. Newry Union Workhouse was opened in the east of Carnagat townland in 1841. The facility was renamed Daisy Hill Hospital in 1930. Elsewhere, the townland remained largely rural until the mid 20th century since when it has seen significant suburban development. The area is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
