Carlyle's House, Middlesex

Carlyle's House is a Georgian terraced house, now a historic house museum, in Cheyne Row, Chelsea, Middlesex. It was the home of the Scottish essayist, historian and philosopher Thomas Carlyle and his wife Jane from 1834 until his death. William Makepeace Thackeray said "Tom Carlyle lives in perfect dignity in a house in Chelsea with a snuffy Scotch maid to open the door and best company in England ringing at it!". The house is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of Kensington and Chelsea.
