Caledon Monument, Tyrone

The Caledon Monument is a ruined 19th-century Greek Doric column near the village of Caledon, County Tyrone. The monument was designed by William Murray in memory of the 2nd Earl Caledon and completed in 1840. It comprised a Greek Doric column on a high square plinth surrounded by four lions. The column was topped by a statue by Cork-born sculptor Thomas Kirk. The monument was blown up by a bomb in 1973. Only the base plinth remains. The monument is within the council area of Mid Ulster.
