Calder Abbey, Cumberland

Calder Abbey is a monestry in Cumberland. Originally founded in 1135 by monks from Furness Abbey, it was moved to this site in 1142 after being destroyed by the Scots in 1138. Originally Savigniac, this order joined the Cistercians in 1148 and was dissolved in 1536. It is within the council area of Cumberland.
