Butley Priory, Suffolk
Butley Priory is a ruined Augustinian monastery and later country house near Butley, Suffolk. The Abbey was founded in 1171 by Ranulph de Glanville, Justiciar of Henry II. The 14th-century Priory Gatehouse (sometimes just known as Butley Priory) survived the Dissolution and was converted into a residence in 1734. It was considered by Pevsner to be "one of the most ambitious and interesting buildings of the 14th century in Suffolk". Some fragments of the priory church and some masonry of the convent survive at Abbey Farm. The monument is within the council area of East Suffolk (Suffolk).
