Burrow Hall, Lancashire

Burrow Hall is a large 18th-century country house in Over Burrow, Lancashire. The house is built of sandstone ashlar with a slate roof. The hall was built over the site of a Roman Fort, the initial construction of which is thought to date to the Flavian period. Remains are thought to be under the Main Hall, although archaeological work during the renovations in 2014 uncovered no significant evidence of that. The Tatham family is thought to have acquired the estate around 1650 after it was confiscated from the royalist Girlington family. The first house on the site was built in 1690 and the Fenwick family inherited the estate through marriage. The current house was built around 1740 by Westby Gill for Robert Fenwick, who MP for Lancaster. It is within the council area of Lancaster (Lancashire).
