Burnt Oak, Middlesex

Burnt Oak is a suburban area between Edgware and Hendon, in Middlesex. The settlement, originally known as Red Hill, developed along the Edgware Road, just south of Edgware, from the mid 19th century. The name Burnt Oak, coming from Burnt Oak Farm, was in use by the 1880s. The area became suburbanised after the opening of Burnt Oak tube station in 1924, notably with the building of the Watling Estate. It is within the council area of Barnet.
