Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset

Burnham-on-Sea is a seaside town in Somerset. It lies at the mouth of the River Parrett. Burnham was a small fishing village until the late 18th century, after which it grew as a popular seaside resort. On the foreshore stands the Low Lighthouse (1832), with its red and white striped façade, still in operation. Burnham Pier (1914) is claimed as as "the shortest pier in the UK". The town is within the council area of Somerset.
