Buckland Abbey, Devon

Buckland Abbey is a historic country house near Buckland Monachorum, Devon. It was built as a Cistercian Abbey, founded in 1278 by Amicia, Countess of Devon. At the Dissolution it was acquired by Sir Richard Grenville and it was converted by his famous grandson into a house in about 1576. The remains of most of the abbey church survive within the present house. the 15th century Tithe Barn, built by the monks, also survives. The house is in the care of the National Trust. It is within the council area of West Devon (Devon).
