Brompton, Middlesex

Brompton is a former village that is now an urban area in the south of Kensington, Middlesex. The earliest record of the village is from 1294. Once known for its fruit gardens, the area between Hyde Park and Brompton began to be developed from around 1800. The Church of the Holy Trinity Brompton dates from 1829. Brompton Oratory (1884) is the home of the London congregation of the Oratorians, a branch of the Roman Catholic faith. The area is within the council area of Kensington and Chelsea.
