Brixham, Devon
Brixham is a port town, lying at the southern end of Tor Bay on the south coast of Devon. It is recorded in Domesday as 'Briseham'. The town developed as two communites: the fishing community of 'Fishtown' and the agricultural community around St Mary's Church of 'Cowtown', now known as Higher Brixham. Brixham is famous as the spot at which William of Orange landed on 5 November 1688 to begin the Glorious Revolution. By the 19th century, Brixham was England’s largest fishing port, the town expanding rapidly in this period. The town is within the council area of Torbay.
