Brighouse, Yorkshire

Brighouse is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. It is situated on the River Calder. The name Brighouse (or "Bridge House") originates from a building on the bridge over the River Calder. The river provided power for the flour milling industry and textile mills. Brighouse's industry received a boost through the construction of the Calder and Hebble Navigation from 1757. The town is internationally famous as the home of Brighouse and Rastrick Brass band. The town is within the council area of Calderdale.
