Bridgwater, Somerset

Bridgwater is a market town in Somerset. It lies on the River Parrett, at the edge of the Somerset Levels. It has been a major inland port, trading and industrial centre since the Industrial Revolution. Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, the forerunner of the Somerset illuminated carnivals, dates back to at least 1847. The town is within the council area of Somerset.
