Bridgeton, Lanarkshire

Bridgeton is a district in the east of Glasgow, Lanarkshire. It started as a small weaving village in 1705. Rutherglen Bridge was built over the River Clyde in 1776 and the area became known as Bridge Town. Bridgeton Cross is a major junction, notable for the "Brigton Umbrella", a Victorian cast iron bandstand covering the centre of the Cross. It is within the council area of City of Glasgow.
