Bridgend, Glamorgan

Bridgend is a town in Glamorgan. The river crossed by the Old Bridge, which gave the town its name, is the River Ogmore but the River Ewenny also passes to the south of the town. Bridgend itself developed at a ford on the River Ogmore, which was on the main route between east and west Wales. Newcastle Castle is a mediæval castle located on Newcastle Hill, overlooking the town centre. Bridgend remained a solid market town until after the war, since when the town has massively expanded, now encompassing several former villages. The town is within the council area of Bridgend.
