Bredbury, Cheshire

Bredbury is a town in Cheshire. Bredbury township was formerly an agricultural area of small hamlets. The opening of the Peak Forest Canal and the railways during the 19th century led to industrial development, population growth and the fusing of hamlets into the village of Bredbury. From 1894-1974, for local government purposes, it was part of the Bredbury and Romiley urban district. The great barn of Bredbury Hall is mediæval in origin. Goyt Hall is a half-timbered building erected by Randal Davenport around 1570. The town is within the council area of Stockport.
