Bravoniacvm, Westmorland

Bravoniacvm (or Bravoniacum or Kirkby Thore Fort) is a Roman Fort in Westmorland. Roman occupation at this site started during the Flavian period with the original timber fort being destroyed c.AD 125 and then rebuilt in stone. The fort is believed to have housed a cavalry unit and archaeological evidence suggests that occupation continued until the late 4th century. Surrounding the fort are granaries, barracks and a command house. The area around the fort shows that there was an extensive settlement here. It is within the council area of Westmorland and Furness.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1012183.
