Bran's Walls, Northumberland

Bran's Walls are the remains of two Romano-British enclosed settlements, 450 yards south-south-east of Kielder Head in Northumberland. They are situated on a north-west facing slope overlooking the valley of the Kielder Burn. The most northerly settlement is roughly oval in shape and measures a maximum of 92 feet north-west to south-east by 190 feet north-east to south-west. The second settlement, situated 65 feet south of the first is long, narrow and irregularly shaped and has been scooped into the hillslope on the eastern side. It measures a maximum of 225 feet north to south by 130 feet east to west externally and is bounded on the west side by a substantial bank of stone and earth 16 feet wide and standing to a maximum height of 3 feet. It is within the council area of Northumberland.
