Bramber Castle, Sussex
Bramber Castle is the ruins of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle in Bramber, Sussex. The castle is sited on a high natural knoll overlooking the River Adur, defending a gap in the South Downs. It was formerly the seat of the large feudal barony of Bramber long held by the Braose family. The one surviving wall of the tower, standing 45ft high, provides a glimpse of how imposing the castle once was. It is in the care of the English Heritage. It is within the council area of Horsham (West Sussex).
