Boscombe, Hampshire

Boscombe is a seaside resort that forms a suburb of Bournemouth, Hampshire. It lies to the east of Bournemouth town centre and west of Southbourne. Originally a sparsely inhabited area of heathland, from around 1865 Boscombe developed rapidly from a small village into a seaside resort alongside Bournemouth. It was incorporated into the municipal boundaries of Bournemouth in 1876 and has since come to be seen as a suburb of Bournemouth. The resort has many architectural styles, ranging from the elaborate Victorian style of the Royal Arcade, notable examples of Art Deco such as the former Gas & Water Company store, and the modernist 1950s styles of the pier and Overstrand buildings. Boscombe is within the council area of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole
