Bonnybefore, Antrim
Bonnybefore (aka Boneybefore) is a former village that is now an urban area in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. It is within the townland of North East Division, in the civil parish of Carrickfergus. The village was the ancestral home of 7th US President Andrew Jackson. The Andrew Jackson Cottage is a traditional thatched Ulster-Scots farmhouse built in 1750s. It is close to the site of the house from which Jackson's parents emigrated in 1765. The journalist, playwright and author Ruddick Millar (1907-1952) lived in 'Fairview', a thatched cottage in the village. The village was surrounded by urban development as Carrickfergus spread eastwards in the post-war period, though its single street retains a distinct village feel. The area is within the council area of Mid and East Antrim.
