Bolsover, Derbyshire
Bolsover is a market town in the north-east of Derbyshire. It was listed as 'Belesovre' in Domesday. Bolsover Castle was originally built by the Peverel family in the 12th century. The present castle, a "fairy-tale" Stuart mansion, was built from 1612 by Sir Charles Cavendish. During the Industrial Revolution, Bolsover became a coal mining centre. The New Bolsover model village was built from 1891 by the Bolsover Colliery Company to house its workforce. The town is within the council area of Bolsover (Derbyshire).
