Blaydon, Durham
Blaydon is a town in County Durham, on the south bank of the River Tyne. Blaydon as a town grew from the early 18th century with the development of mining in the area. Since the decline of mining, the economy has diversified with many engineering and manufacturing businesses operating from premises in Blaydon Haughs (or 'The Spike'), on the banks of the Tyne. The town is within the council area of Gateshead.
