Blaina, Monmouthshire

Blaenau (Blaina) is a small town in the former mining valley of the river Ebbw Fach in Monmouthshire. It lies to the south of Nantyglo. Although there is a continuous strip of housing all the way down the old valley road, Blaina is a distinct community, separate from Nantyglo. The place name is derived from the Welsh word blaenau "uplands". The town is within the council area of Blaenau Gwent.
