Blackdown Rings, Devon
Blackdown Rings is the remains of a prehistoric hillfort with a mediæval ringwork and bailey castle, situated near Loddiswell, Devon. The monument is located on a hill to the west of the River Avon. The hillfort occupies a roughly oval area of approximately 6 acres enclosed by a single rampart with an external ditch and a counterscarp bank. In the north-western part of the hillfort are the earthwork remains of a mediæval castle, taking the form of a ringwork and bailey. It is within the council area of South Hams (Devon).
