Blackburn, Lancashire
Blackburn is a large town in Lancashire. It lies to the north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley. A former mill town, textiles have been produced in Blackburn since the middle of the 13th century. James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny, was a weaver in Blackburn. Blackburn Town Hall (1856) was built in the Italian renaissance style. Ewood Park has been home to Blackburn Rovers FC since 1890. Queen Victoria's statue, in the town centre, was unveiled in 1905 by Princess Louise, Victoria's fourth daughter. The town is within the council area of Blackburn with Darwen.
