Black Castle Public House, Somerset

Black Castle Public House (aka Arno's Castle) is a Gothic Revival folly, now a public house, located on Junction Road, Brislington, south Bristol, Somerset. It was built from 1745-55 for prominent local factory owner William Reeve, as pleasure rooms and offices. The building is symmetrical in plan with crenellated circular towers at each corner that link two-storey blocks to form a square courtyard. Much of the freestone carving and dressings are reputed to have come from the city's demolished mediæval gateways, and St Werburgh's Church, rebuilt by James Bridges in 1758-61. The building is within the council area of Bristol.
Historic England Grade I Listed 1292881.
