Bitterne Manor, Hampshire

Bitterne Manor is a former manor that is now a suburban area in Southampton, Hampshire. The original mediæval manor house, dating from at least the 13th century, still exists. It has been much altered over the centuries and is now surrounded by 20th-century development. The site, on a promontory jutting into the River Itchen, is believed to be the location of the Roman town of Clausentum. It is within the council area of Southampton.
