Bindon Abbey, Dorset

Bindon Abbey is a ruined Cisterican monastery near Wool, Dorset. The monastery, founded in 1149 by William de Glastonia, moved to this site in 1172. The abbey was suppressed in 1539. The abbey ruins survive as low standing walls of buildings including the church and monastic ranges arranged around a central courtyard or cloister. In 1559 Thomas Howard built a country house on the site, but this was burnt down during the Civil War, although the outline of Howard's gardens can still be seen. Bindon Abbey House (extant) was built on part of the former abbey grounds around 1796. The monument is within the council area of Dorset.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1002703.
