Bilston, Staffordshire
Bilston is a town in Staffordshire. The earliest reference is to 'Bilsatena' from 985. It remained a village until the 19th century during which it was extensively developed for factories and coal mining, becoming a centre for enamelling. For local government purposes, from 1895-1966, the ancient parish of Bilston was the basis for Bilston urban district (a municipal borough from 1933). Bilston Town Hall (1873) is in the Classical style. St Leonard's Church dates from 1826, the fourth church on the site. The town is within the council area of Wolverhampton.
